Whether you're a ski bunny or a summer beach lover, adding sunscreen to your daily skin care routine is a year-round must.

Overexposure to the sun can cause various skin problems, such as sunburn, allergic reactions, premature aging (wrinkles, age spots) and cancer(malignant melanomas, carcinomas). This is why you need to use sunscreen to protect your skin from the sun's UVB rays (which cause cancer) and UVA rays (which cause premature skin aging).
Here are some tips to help you safely enjoy the full benefits of the sun:

  • The Canadian Dermatology Association recommends using a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF 30 or more. Choose a sunscreen with this association's logo.

  • Apply the product at least 30 minutes before going out in the sun. Reapply every 2 hours or immediately after swimming or if you’ve been sweating a lot.

  • Make sure you apply enough sunscreen to cover all parts of your body and face that will be exposed to the sun.

  • Even if you use cosmetics with an SPF (such as a day cream), you should still apply a sunscreen. Cosmetics don’t usually contain an SPF over 30, and they don’t protect against all types of sun rays. Also, you generally apply them only once a day.
