Usually, all you need to get over a sore throat is time, rest and some painkillers. But sometimes a sore throat is caused by a bacteria called Streptococcus, and this condition is called streptococcal pharyngitis, or “strep throat.” Symptoms include a lot of pain and redness in the throat as well as fever. Strep throat mainly strikes children aged 3 to 15 and their immediate families. Strep throat is treated with an antibiotic to prevent complications, which can be serious.
To determine if you have strep throat, your doctor will do a throat swab. Many Proxim branches have rapid strep tests. If the result is positive, your doctor will prescribe the appropriate medication. Your pharmacist will then advise you on how to take the medication properly and what to do to relieve pain.
